Call me Corona. Just Corona

Hey There! It is me Corona! How are you doing? Well, don’t mistake my genuine concern towards your health for sarcasm. You seriously seem to be taking a great dislike towards me. That is why I decided to write this piece to you. Not everybody wants to be the bad guy always!

Let me first make one thing clear to you. I am a virus and it is my nature to spread. You cannot blame me for being my best self! And I always thought you people fall in love with anything that turns viral. Now I know I was absolutely wrong there. You definitely do not like anything that stays viral for long.

Last night I saw a quote on twitter that immediately caught my attention. Now don’t give me those surprising looks for using twitter! I am your most trending topic for the past one year. You cannot expect me to not take an interest in your most-loved means of communication! Moreover, there is a striking similarity between social media and our family. We spread from person to person and grow exponentially. So, last night I saw this quote, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade out of it”. Not many retweeted it, I don’t know why, but I felt that that one quote decides the nature of your entire race.

If life gives you lemons, why do you stop with making lemonade out of it? Do you not realise that you also have to plant the seeds of the lemon? Life cannot everyday shower lemons on you! You have to make your own arrangements for your future needs with whatever resources you receive today. I pity, a microorganism should be able to teach a lesson to a multicellular organism!

I know, I cannot come to conclusions with one single stray quote. But, trust me, this is what I observed after travelling the length and breadth of your country. I have seen more of your land than you can ever imagine to see. You chop down trees and fence barren lands to be able to build a house there, I don’t understand when! You throw away seeds in dustbins and decorate your homes with paper flowers. Craftsmen and cultivators are dictated by people with no-skill but to dictate. You chop down the branch you are sitting on, and blame the tree for not holding a little longer.

Even now, you are praying to invisible Gods to control this invisible virus. Do you even realise that you have to instead apologise to visible nature for your more-than visible destruction?

You are filled with anger, grief, helplessness, fear and many other emotions. The blame for all those emotions finally shoots in my direction.

If you haven’t grown enough plants to give you sufficient oxygen, why do you blame me?

If you haven’t realised that health is more important than wealth, why do you blame me?

If you haven’t understood that nature cannot be taken for granted, why do you blame me?

Blame me, as much as you want. I cannot stop you from doing it. One thing, however, I want you to keep in mind. Please stop calling me Coronavirus. How would it sound if I start calling each one of you with your name followed by ‘human’? My name is Corona and I shall prefer you to call me Corona. Just Corona.

  2. Made Corona speak in it's own language...Corona told a lie...it did not originate from humans reckless disregard for nature...it was born out of human greed to grab whatever...into its belly..

    Did a good job

Open Letter 2

Dear Society, How are you? I hope this letter finds you in jest and jubilation. I am not sure about your mood but I was in real jubilation when I went to a hospital last week to confirm my pregnancy status. You should have seen the hospital with its looks nothing short of a corporate office. I have seen those grand hoardings quite a number of times, but one got to enter those buildings to get the real feel of it. The hospital that I visited is completely dedicated to mother and child care. It struck me unusual that such a huge building with its innumerable staff exists only to serve mothers and their children. The next time someone tells me women are not given respect in our country, I will take them to visit my hospital. One tour around those multiple stories would make even a radical feminist to concede that we do respect our women. Well, at least until they see those countless boards claiming that sex-determination tests are not done in their hospitals. Those boards are anywhere and...

Dear Society, How are you? I am fine and I hope this letter finds you hale and healthy. Though it sounds a mere pleasantry, I want you to understand that every time I begin a letter, I truly hope to find you healthy because only when you have a healthy body can you think with a rational mind. You might find it difficult to believe me, but I have literally started living on fruits. I, who five months ago wouldn’t mind to steal a glance at a fruit stall, am now finding myself bargaining with every fruit vendor on road. Sometimes I feel there is no great relationship in the world than the one between a mother and her child. Women rarely give importance to their health but when they have a child in their womb, none can beat them at health and hygiene.   On one such fruit-stall-outing, I happened to look at a side-street aglow with a dull street lamp. At the corner of the street stood a little boy frozen to the spot under the street lamp. My recently acquired motherly instinct pushed...

Dear society, How was your week? Mine was peaceful and I hope this letter finds you in a sea of positivity and optimism. Optimism is a necessary booster we all need in times like these and unlike  vitamin c tablets that are fast moving off the pharma shelves, optimism never runs out of stock. Yesterday, I had a group chat with my college friends and we spoke for hours about optimism. The problem seems to be that everyone is concerned about others not being optimistic enough while they themselves are helpless in being anything but panic stricken. Few are worried about loss of pay while few are not sure if they are going to hold on to their jobs for long. Out of all the depression and confusion, one guy sat relaxed and cheerful and seemed to be anything but worried. This person actually lost his job last month and surprisingly, he feels that was what breathed life into him. Intrigued at his answer, all the members on chat pressed him to tell more of his life. In his own words, ‘He al...
