ఆచారమా! లేక దురాచారమా!


ముక్కొటి దేవతలు ముక్తకంఠంతో
ముక్కంటి మోముకు వందనం తెలుపగ
ఆ మధుర ఘట్టం కాంచ
మైమరచి మానవాళి మజిలీలుగ తరలిరాగా
దైవస్తానంలో దేవతల సన్నిధిలో
వందలాది భక్తులు తొక్కిసిలాటలో తుధిశ్వాస విడిస్తే
ఆచారమా! లేక అది దురాచారమా!
సాంఘిక వైరమా! లేక మానవాళిదే నేరమా!


పొట్టను నింపిన గోమాంసానికి బదులుగ
నిందు కుతుంబాన్ని పొట్టనపెట్టుకుంటే!
కులాంతర వివాహానికి వధూవరులనూ
మతాంతర వివాహానికి రెండు ఊళ్ళనే అంతం చేస్తే
ఏమిటీ ఘోరం అని గళమెత్తిన విఙ్యాన సంఘాన్ని
ఒకరొకరుగ హతమారుస్తుంటే!
ఆచారమా! లేక అది దురాచారమా!
సాంఘిక వైరమా! లేక మానవాళిదే నేరమా!

రెక్కలు ముక్కలు చేసుకుని
రెయింబవళ్ళు చెమటోడ్చి సమకూర్చిన కష్తార్జితం
ఆడపిల్లకు జన్మనివ్వడమే నేరమా అనిపించెంతలా
వివాహ ఘడియకు అర్థనిముషమైన ముందరే
రెక్కలు కట్టుకు తన్నుకుపోతారే
ఈ కట్నకానుకలది ఏ వైకరి?
ఆచారమా! లేక అది దురాచారమా!
సాంఘిక వైరమా! లేక మానవాళిదే నేరమా!

అమ్మ ఆకలికంటూ మూగజీవులను బలియిచి
అమ్మ సేవకై సువర్ణమణులను ధారపోసి
నవరాత్రి ఉత్సవానికి నూరామడలు నడచి వచ్చి
నవమాసాలు మోసిన కన్నతల్లికి వృద్ధాస్రమాన్ని విడిది చేసే
విలువలు మరచి పదవుల కోసం
అమ్మ అనుగ్రహానికై కానుకల పరవళ్ళు జమచేసే
అమానుష భక్తకోటిది ఏ రీతి?
ఆచారమా! లేక అది దురాచారమా!
సాంఘిక వైరమా! లేక మానవాళిదే నేరమా!

ముక్కుపచ్చలారని పుత్తడి బొమ్మలను
మూడుముళ్ళ బంధంతో పెనవేసి
కట్టిన మావిడాకులైనా ఎండక ముందే
పరమేశ్వరుని చెంతకు చేరిన వృద్ధవరుడి చితిపై
సతీసహగమనమంటూ బలితీసుకున్న నాడు
ఆ పసి వదనాలను బాల్యవితంతువు పేరిట
సామాజిక కట్టుబాటులకు బంధీ చేసిననాడు
కులం మరచి మతం విడిచి
ఏక కంఠంతో గొంతెత్తి ఆగ్రహం తెలిపిన
నిస్సందేహ నిర్విభేద నిరాటంక గళం ఏది?
ఏదీ వినబడదేం? ఆ విప్లవ భారతం నేడు కనబడదేం?

Dear Society, How are you? I hope this letter finds you in jest and jubilation. I am not sure about your mood but I was in real jubilation when I went to a hospital last week to confirm my pregnancy status. You should have seen the hospital with its looks nothing short of a corporate office. I have seen those grand hoardings quite a number of times, but one got to enter those buildings to get the real feel of it. The hospital that I visited is completely dedicated to mother and child care. It struck me unusual that such a huge building with its innumerable staff exists only to serve mothers and their children. The next time someone tells me women are not given respect in our country, I will take them to visit my hospital. One tour around those multiple stories would make even a radical feminist to concede that we do respect our women.
