THE STORY OF THE WOMEN IN THE UNIFICATION OF THE NATION

March 08,2015; the International Women's Day is celebrated all over the world. This day, the dawn breaks with the existence of women being celebrated on a grand scale. The mother living in every daughter and the daughter living in every mother is cherished. The augmenting achievements of women in all walks of life is made known and all the great women of the past are paid homage. The day on a whole is a day of acknowledgement of the greatness of being a woman. By the time the dusk sets in all the women of the nation end their day with pride in their hearts and happiness in their eyes.

The sadder part is that approximately 800 women would not wake up out of this deep slumber. They are expected to reach the abode of the lord due to preventable diseases. The victims include children both born and unborn. The most obvious yet oblivious diseases of gender discrimination and sex selective abortions play the main role in these deaths. These deaths happen everyday and so they have no place in our sensation desiring world. Hence, instead of concentrating on those quite possible yet un-preventable deaths, let's take a look at the achievements made by our women in the past few years.

While terrorists and politicians were trying to divide the nation, the women of India were busy uniting the same. Nirbhaya, united the people to an extent that even the police cannons and lathi force could not distort their form. Inspired by this act of the citizens, a number of women were given a chance to walk in the footsteps of Nirbhaya. The Badaun cousins, the Shakthi mills, photojournalist were the next lucky women of India who were given this noble opportunity to unite the nation. The judiciary system and the Government of India found these acts worth encouraging and further loosened their grip on the criminals so that the concept of Unity in Diversity could be best celebrated throughout the nation.

The youngest woman to receive the candle light honor by the nation was six year old. Can anyone imagine that a six year old girl could contribute so much to the nation? Decades of arguments in the parliament have not been successful in providing the women their special status, where as for deeds like entertaining the men or falling prey to their misdeeds, it only takes them a birth as a woman. Indian women have hundred and one percent reservation in this sphere.

Some wise and technologically advanced parents have decided to save the girl child from this disaster by silencing her much before she gets silenced by a beast. The number of these new-generation parents has increased to such an extent that in the past twenty years approximately one million fetus were killed in the womb just because they were girls.

Ours is a country of values and traditions. Here, fathers love their daughters, sons love their mothers, brothers love their sisters and husbands love their wives. Still one out of two girls in India suffer from malnutrition and every sixth girl here complains of sexual abuse. Every single man in this country is ever ready to sacrifice his life to save the women but at the end of the day women get killed for not living up to the standards of the society.

Killing a person  is a crime while honor-killing is a virtue. Choking a criminal to death is discussed for years whereas choking a fetus in the womb gets least noticed. This international women's day, instead of waiting for one more woman to sacrifice her life to unite us, let's take a step forward to shield their smiles from vanishing behind unanswerable sobs.

Open Letter 2

Dear Society, How are you? I hope this letter finds you in jest and jubilation. I am not sure about your mood but I was in real jubilation when I went to a hospital last week to confirm my pregnancy status. You should have seen the hospital with its looks nothing short of a corporate office. I have seen those grand hoardings quite a number of times, but one got to enter those buildings to get the real feel of it. The hospital that I visited is completely dedicated to mother and child care. It struck me unusual that such a huge building with its innumerable staff exists only to serve mothers and their children. The next time someone tells me women are not given respect in our country, I will take them to visit my hospital. One tour around those multiple stories would make even a radical feminist to concede that we do respect our women. Well, at least until they see those countless boards claiming that sex-determination tests are not done in their hospitals. Those boards are anywhere and...

Thalaiva did make an announcement. Not what everybody expected him to make but quite the contrary. Film Stars in politics Superstar Rajinikanth , affectionately called Thalaiva , a veteran film actor and philanthropist, has been making news in Tamil politics for last five years. Rajini’s followers have been waiting for him to enter active politics since many years. It is not uncommon to Indian actors to move to politics at a later stage of their career. Tamil Nadu, in particular, has seen notable film stars turning mass leaders throughout its political history. M G Ramachandran, M Karunanidhi, Jayalalitha are some of the popular leaders from the state that had a previous career in film industry. Andhra Pradesh, is also, not unfamiliar with this trend.
